Sainte-Chapelle is a Gothic royal chapel located in the medieval Palais de la Cité, the residence of the Kings of France until the 14th century. It is located on the Île de la Cité, nearby Notre Dame, in the heart of Paris, France.

Most of one’s attention is turned upward to the striking stained glass and vaulted ceiling, but look down and you’ll find among tourist feet a treasure of images on the tiled floor.
Would that I could have stayed all day and gathered the whole lot, but we had a lot of ground to cover that day, and despite the rain the traffic through the chapel was steady. I’m not inclined to ask other tourists to move so that I can take a photo of a tile – they’re taking in the sights, too – nor did I have my tripod. The result: a good but not great collection that I’ll turn into decor on a piece of furniture, perhaps on the outside face of a bookcase or along the surface of a wall shelf.
